Fréjus, land of wine tradition
From ancient Rome to modern vineyards, Fréjus has cultivated unique winemaking expertise for centuries. This volcanic land, bathed in sunshine and the Mediterranean, offers wines with captivating aromas and an identity deeply rooted in its terroir.
A millennial heritage
The origins of the vine in Provence
2 years ago, the Phocaeans introduced a fabulous plant to Provence: the vine. This vineyard is the oldest in France. A few centuries later, the Romans founded Forum Julii (Fréjus), bringing with them new grape varieties and advanced winemaking techniques. From then on, wine became a prized regional resource.
Resilience in the face of hardship
In the Middle Ages, the Provençal vineyards prospered under the impetus of the great noble and military families. But in 1880, phylloxera struck, decimating the vines. Thanks to the ingenuity of the winegrowers, the French plants were grafted onto resistant American plants, allowing the vineyard to be reborn.
The AOC Côtes de Provence, a quest for quality
The 1977th century marked a turning point: winegrowers united to create the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) Côtes de Provence in XNUMX, which guarantees the quality and authenticity of local wines.
Fréjus, land of wine tourism excellence
Since 2009, the prestigious “Vignobles & Découvertes” label has distinguished wine destinations that combine the art of living and discovery.
In 2024, Fréjus and Puget-sur-Argens, Roquebrune-sur-Argens, Saint-Raphaël, as well as nine villages in the Pays de Fayence obtained this precious recognition thanks to collective, unifying and ambitious work carried out by the tourist offices of the territories concerned.
More than just recognition, this label rewards a territory that is united and committed to promoting its wine tourism potential.
This label, awarded for a period of three years, facilitates the organization of wine-related stays by bringing together accommodation, wine estates, restaurants, cultural activities and leisure activities in a coherent approach. Vineyard and discovery label "Terre d'Esterel"
For thousands of years, the Esterel massif, with its majestic red rocks, has embraced the deep blue Mediterranean Sea.
Here, in this fusion of raw nature and endless beauty, the vines thrive, rooted in a unique terroir that is the pride of the region's winemakers.
This landscape, where the earth and the sky seem to meet on the horizon, offers a moment of pure contemplation.
But it is not only made of beauty: it tells the story of a generous land, spoiled by the sun, nourished by traditions, and shaped by generations of passionate winegrowers.

The grape festival, the wine event of the summer
Celebrated in indifference until 1959, the Miougrano of Fréjù decided, in 1960, with the agreement of the Bishop, to restore public splendor to this celebration. That day, in the Saint-Léonce Cathedral,
grape juice becomes the blood of Christ.
In Fréjus, the local history museum pays homage to Provençal traditions and the history of the town.
