Iles de Lérins "Ile Saint Honorat" by Sea You Sun

Explore the Var coast in a unique way with Sea You Sun sea excursions! Come aboard L'Angelis for a cruise to the Lérins Islands archipelago, nestled in the Bay of Cannes.
Enjoy an intimate experience aboard a comfortable boat that can accommodate up to 12 passengers, for an enriching ride enhanced by the fascinating commentary of your captain. Set sail to music towards the island of Saint-Honorat, a jewel of the Bay of Cannes.

Saint-Honorat Island, this small island, adorned with a forest of Aleppo pines, umbrella pines, eucalyptus and cypresses, stretches over 1,5 km in length and 400 meters in width. Marvel at its coves with turquoise waters and enjoy a moment of relaxation far from the hustle and bustle of Cannes.

Since 410, the island of Saint-Honorat has been a monastic site, now home to around twenty monks who cultivate vines, produce wine, lavender, oranges, vegetables, honey and a liqueur called Lérina. According to legend, Saint-Honorat chased all the snakes off the island with a tidal wave after settling there in the XNUMXth century. As his fame grew, he founded the monastery which is one of the most illustrious in Christianity. Pilgrims, including the Pope visiting Lérins, have walked the island barefoot to receive indulgences.

Confiscated during the Revolution, the abbey was closed and restored to Cistercian life in 1859 by the Abbot of Sénanque. A visit to the island will take you to its old fortified monastery, classified as a historical monument and built in 1073 by the Abbot Aldebert to protect the monks from maritime invasions and Saracen pirates.

After about an hour's stopover, take the boat back towards the Pointe de l'Aiguille in Théoule-sur-Mer, passing along the coves of the Corniche d'Or with its red rocks, the coves of Anthéor and Barthelemy, the hamlets of Trayas and Agay, the islet of Vieilles, and the Île d'Or dominated by Cap Roux, Pic de l'Ours and Mont Vinaigre, the highest point of the Estérel massif.

If you've ever admired the calanques from land, you'll enjoy discovering them from a unique perspective from the sea. Get as close as possible to the coastline to observe the red cliffs sculpted by erosion and discover secret coves accessible only by boat. If the weather permits, stop for a refreshing break under the Côte d'Azur sun, accompanied by a cold drink, and perhaps even a snorkeling session to explore the seabed in the crystal-clear waters of the Corniche d'Or (mask and snorkel provided).

Don’t miss the Golden Island, the inspiration for Hergé’s famous “Tintin and the Black Island” album, with its vibrant colours and fascinating biodiversity. Don’t hesitate to ask your captain questions about the local fauna, flora and geology – he will be happy to enlighten you. (Activities may vary depending on weather conditions.)
