Fréjus, a sustainable destination

Preserving and promoting an exceptional heritage

In Fréjus, the preservation and development of our heritage is not just a mission: it is a commitment to future generations, whether they are the people of Fréjus or the vacationers who come to discover our beautiful destination.

This state of mind, carried by concrete actions, contributes to enriching the unique character of our territory and strengthening its tourist appeal.

As a Tourist Office, we are proud to share these riches and promote them.

As a committed player, we fully play our role as a relay in this environmental approach, both in the construction of the tourist offer and in the communication and highlighting of Fréjus.

Whether through the protection of biodiversity, the promotion of our natural heritage or raising awareness among visitors, we work every day to make Fréjus a destination where it is good to live and be amazed.

A preserved and enhanced environment

Fréjus ensures a balance between development and preservation of its natural resources. Thanks to concrete actions and prestigious labels, the city combines aesthetics and sustainability:

  • “3 Flowers” Label : Recognition for the constant efforts to beautify the city, with flowery spaces thanks to the active participation of residents via the “Fleurir Fréjus” competition.
  • Territorial Climate Energy Plan (PCET) : Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy transition.
  • Soft transport : development of cycle paths, incentives for the acquisition of electric bicycles, electric urban shuttles

The natural treasures of Fréjus: 52% of forest to protect

With its 5 hectares of forest (including 370 hectares in municipal ownership), Fréjus is a veritable green setting:

  • Municipal Forest Service : trail maintenance, fire prevention, and initiatives such as “The Children’s Forest”, where each child born during the year participates in the symbolic planting of trees.
  • Municipal Forest Fire Committee (CCFF): a volunteer force mobilized for the protection of forest areas and assistance in the event of natural disasters.

A protected sea and strong commitments to marine biodiversity

Fréjus, a signatory of the Pélagos Charter, is committed to preserving marine mammals in the Mediterranean sanctuary. With local initiatives, the city promotes the richness of its seabed:

• Port of Fréjus awarded the “Blue Flag” label: a model of ecological innovation thanks to  awareness-raising projects and sustainable developments.

• Reasoned cleaning of beaches: during the winter, only waste of human origin is collected, leaving the natural elements intact to protect the ecosystem littoral

Fréjus is committed to integrating nature into the heart of the city:

  • Installation of canopies, insect hotels and urban revegetation projects
  • Development of shared gardens and eco-citizen events to involve residents.

Special attention to animal protection

The creation of a Citizen Ecology Department reflects Fréjus' desire to implement concrete policies in favor of animal welfare:

• Support for shelters and adoption of a sterilization policy to limit wandering in partnership with the 30 Million Friends Foundation, animal protection associations and veterinarians. This stray cat management program includes sterilization, identification and care. Once taken care of, these cats, now "free", are placed under the protection of the municipality and treated in the event of injuries.

• Raising awareness of good practices among residents.

• Support for Paul Watson and the fight to protect the oceans

The City supports Canadian environmental activist Paul Watson, known for his shock actions against whaling. Fréjus, faithful to its ecological commitments, expressed its support in the face of his risk of extradition to Japan, where his actions could cost him a prison sentence.

• Ban on the scheduling of bullfights in the Fréjus arenas. Another strong act in our approach to animal protection: the City has taken the decision to no longer schedule bullfights in its arenas, thus affirming its commitment against animal suffering.

• TOUTOURISME Label supported by the Fréjus Tourist Office

A large proportion of holidaymakers are hesitant to travel with their pet, or do not know where to find the right information to make their stay easier. With the increase in the number of pet owners, it has become essential to create a framework that is favourable to this growing clientele.

Fréjus is therefore committed to providing a pleasant and secure environment for pets, with suitable beaches and urban spaces.

Coming to Fréjus means discovering a heritage that is unique in the world, and what could be better than being able to do it with your four-legged friend? He will enjoy stretching his paws on the Pacha beach, at the Villepey ponds or in the streets of the historic heart.

Today, there are 18 million dog owners in France and 62,5% choose to go on holiday with them.

Together for a sustainable future

Fréjus continues to innovate to pass on this exceptional natural heritage to future generations. With actions in favor of ecology, biodiversity and civic engagement, the city invites its visitors to participate in this great adventure for sustainable and respectful tourism.

Come and discover a city where nature, sea and urban planning come together for a greener future!
