On this third Sunday after Easter, fifes and drums resonate in the streets of the historic center of our city... The time has come for the Bravade, the time for the people of Fréjus to honor Saint-François-de-Paule, in fervor and sharing.
Parades, dances, processions and masses bring together all generations for four days. Bravade flows in the veins of all.

The savior of Fréjus:

At the end of the fifteenth century, Fréjus faced an epidemic of the Black Death which decimated the population, leaving the survivors with only one choice: to hide in their homes or flee into the surrounding countryside.

Apostle of Charity, Francis of Paola left his native Calabria to go to the bedside of the King of France under the orders of Pope Sixtus IV. Arriving in front of Marseille, his ship had to turn back, the port being closed because of the plague that was raging on the Provençal coast. Pushed back from everywhere, the ship had to turn back to dock at the small port of Bormes-les-Mimosas. It was in this small town that Francis performed his first Provençal miracle. The monk and his companions took the road again towards Fréjus, a port of Roman origin. He walked the streets without meeting a living soul, the doors were closed. A deathly silence reigned. In the midst of this desolation, he met a woman, Misé Bertole, and asked her the causes of this desolation. "It's the plague," Misé Bertole would answer.

Touched with compassion, the saint implores divine Mercy for this city so cruelly tried.
His prayer will be answered, the plague will never affect the city again.

The devotion of the people of Fréjus to their saint would continue through the centuries.

The motivations of each person may be diverse and varied, but the commitment of the Bravadeurs is remarkable and their gratitude unwavering.

Charity Humility.
