Visite guidée Le Barrage de Malpasset : Au coeur d'une catastrophe
Tuesday April 01
(All periods)Office de tourisme de Fréjus Le Florus 2 249 Rue Jean Jaurès CS50123 83600 Fréjus
December 2, 1959, past 21 p.m., a deafening noise resounds in the night. The Malpasset dam has just given way. A wave nearly 50 meters high breaks over Fréjus and sweeps away everything in its path.
The toll is heavy: 423 victims are recorded. No family is spared.
Today, the ruins of the dam still lie in the valley and offer the opportunity to perform an autopsy of this terrible tragedy. Why did the dam collapse? Could the disaster have been avoided? How could an accident of such magnitude have occurred? Visiting this site with our guide will help clarify all your questions.
For groups, a private visit is also possible on the date and time of your choice. Information from the Tourist Office.
