Historic Heart: where everything begins and continues
Over the centuries, the Historic Heart of Fréjus has established itself as the living soul of the city.
Home to Forum Julii, the “Jules market”, this district is a treasure trove of history and culture where the past harmoniously dialogues with the present.
Beneath the majestic Saint-Léonce cathedral, wonder is everywhere: cloister with unique medieval frescoes, cobbled streets bustling with markets, and exceptional Roman heritage.
Here, every stone whispers a legend and every street corner holds a surprise.
The soul of Fréjus
Fréjus center or more commonly called the historic center, or the old town, by the Fréjusiens is the heart of our city! This is where it all began and where it all continues, 2072 years later… Because it is indeed in this place that Caesar's men laid the first stones of Forum Julii, "the market of Julius". Some two millennia later, Roman monuments such as the arenas and the Theater, still exist next to the medieval Cathedral and its cloister, jewels of Provençal Christianity or the grand private mansions of the Grand Siècle.
