Monument aux morts de Hammam Bou Hadjar

This monumental soldier, erected in 1931 at the top of the war memorial in Hammam-Bou-Hadjar (Oranie), was dismantled in 1963 and installed in 1964 in its current location.
It is thanks to the patriotism of Gaston MONTAMAT, former deputy mayor of Saint-Raphaël and repatriated from Algeria, and to the support of the Army and the Navy, that this statue was able to be repatriated from Algeria. It was sculpted in Carrara marble by Albert POMMIER, Grand Prix of the 1937 International Exhibition. The original inscription still appears on the monument: "To our dear dead who remained in Hammam-Bou-Hadjar. A plaque is dedicated by the City of Fréjus to the memory of the children of Algeria who died for France. 1914-1918. 1939-1945"
