The Roman platform site is one of the richest archaeological sites in Fréjus. On site, there are the remains of a monumental ancient residence as well as a buried and magnificently preserved Roman cistern.
Known on city maps dating from the 17th century and excavated in the 19th century, the Roman platform is undoubtedly one of the most famous archaeological sites in Fréjus.
The remains, very leveled, reveal a domus of monumental dimensions (more than 6000 square meters) which stood at the entrance to the Roman town.
The function of this building divides archaeologists: was it a palace belonging to a private person or a public building that played a role in imperial politics?
In any case, it was a major site which left a considerable mark on the urban landscape.
The platform site will soon be enhanced and will be accessible via guided tour.
