Villa du Pacha

La Villa du Pacha: History of an Isolated Residence and its Integration into the Naval Air Base, also nicknamed “Villa des Sables”. It stands out as an elegant white villa, hidden under the pine trees and bordered by sand facing the sea.
Built at the end of the 19th century, the villa was intended for a wealthy family, probably the Bloch-Larroques.

It is one of the few villas in the isolated Grand Esca district.
At the end of the 19th century, Félix Martin, mayor of Saint-Raphaël, created a boulevard linking Saint-Aygulf and Saint-Raphaël.

The “Boulevard du Bord de Mer” crossed the marshes and ran alongside isolated properties, including the Villa des Sables.

At that time, the villa, then called “Villa Soleil”, served as a summer residence. Access was difficult due to bad weather.

The isolation of the villa persisted until 1912, the year when the Naval Air Base opened on the neighboring land.

In 1932, the villa was bought by the Naval Air Force and integrated into the base.
It then became the officers' mess, while the upper floors housed the domestic staff.

Despite his nickname, the base commander did not reside in the villa.
